HELP, i dont know what im doing

I'm new to this and know nothing about making a game, I have a few of the basics down. But that's the extent of my knowledge, If anyone could give me some pointers it would be much appreciated. I'm trying to make a top down RPG style, kin to something like torchlight, I have all the ideas and story and have been wanted to make this since I was a kid. Thanks to everyone in advance for the help.

I don't know if you have already seen burgzerg's tutorials but, his hack 'n' slash series is pretty awesome. something like 400 videos covering a huge amount of information such as scripts and system and GUI development. It may be what you need to get started. Good luck.
